Holy Orders is the sacrament in which a man is ordained a deacon, priest, or bishop. If he is ordained, he receives a gift of the Holy Spirit that gives him a sacred authority that is conferred upon him by Christ through the bishop. To be eligible to receive Holy Orders, you have to be a baptized man who has been called to ordination by God. To become a priest or bishop in the Roman Catholic Church, the man must be celibate, meaning he has no wife or children. Although priests and bishops cannot be married at the time of their ordination, deacons can, but only if they are not going to go on to the priesthood.
Form The form is the words said by the minister as the sacrament is performed. The form for Holy Orders is the bishop's specific consecratory prayer asking God for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and his gifts proper to the ministry to which the man is being ordained.
Matter The matter is the physical elements needed for the sacrament to be valid. The matter of Holy Orders is the laying on of the bishop's hands with the consecratory prayer.
Minister The minister is the person who performs the sacrament. The minister of Holy Orders is the diocesan bishop. The diocesan bishop is allowed to ordain priests and deacons as he sees fit to serve in his diocese. A bishop can only ordain other bishops with the permission of the pope.
Rite The minister says a consecratory prayer and imposes his hands on the recipient. The recipient lays prostrate on the floor as a sign of humility.

There are two different types of priests: parish priests and religious priests. Parish priests are priests that are ordained to work in a particular parish. Once they are first ordained as deacons, they promise obedience to their diocesan bishop. They promise to life a life of chastity and according to status of the clergy. The difference is that diocesan priests do not make vows and do not promise poverty, so they handle their own money. A diocesan priest usually works in a parish, or sometimes in Catholic schools, hospitals, or administrative offices. The main job of a parish priest is to assist the people of the contemporary world.
